Gosh if people started delving into my past I can only shudder in
horror at what might be written, especially when you consider that
people's memories don't get better as time goes on, and things get
exaggerated or taken out of context. I think sometimes how I would
feel if almost everyone I came into contact with wrote or talked about
me -- old boyfriends, school mates, neighbors, hotel staff... Can you
just imagine having private things being openly talked about to all
and sundry? I'd die. People brush it off as 'the price of fame' but
when I put myself in the situation I just can't be so dismissive of
it. It has to hurt.
I like to hear about their past too, only appropriate things. Some
stories are great to hear, and I've found I can tell which way the
wind is blowing pretty fast into a conversation. Many times while
looking for things to print in the Knebworth programme or talking to
people for Jimmy's birthday book, I politely but firmly ended
conversations. I'm old fashioned I suppose, and of course it's up to
everyone to decide where that line is for them. It's drawn very
clearly with me, and as soon as I hear certain red flag words, I'm
gone. :)
I hope Jimmy will come play again. But even if he doesn't, what he
has given us already....heaven!!!
