Hey, not all meds are bad. :)
The CNN interview was basically ok (and I have to admit that with time,
I'm mellowing with regards to Percy. I'm actually kinda looking forward
to the next album. I just hope it's more lively and adventurous than
Raising Sand. The notion that RS is actually new or creative is
laughable to me. It's the vanilla ice cream of music for God's sake!
What bugged me most about it is the notion and continued portrayl of
those wishing for a Led Zeppelin reunion as a bunch of LZ diehards
holding their breath. If anything, I find many professed hardcore LZ
fans to be the most supportive of Plant NOT working with Led Zeppelin
anymore. Every forum online where it's mentioned or every radio show I
hear talk about it says the same thing. Plant should do what he wants,
now where's that O2 DVD!? I will always maintain that the truly
courageous, adventurous and creative thing to do would be to attempt to
write and record with the O2 version of Led Zeppelin. Doing a bunch of
Nashville covers with Alison, T-Bone and Buddy is hardly adventurous,
it's about as safe as a Loretta and Conway duet! If that's what old
Percy wants to do, then fine.
Plus there's the mistaken notion that those pining for a reunion are a
minority. It's like I wrote this morning and in other recent messages,
those massive numbers trying to get their hands on O2 tickets hardly
constitute a minority of a few old LZ diehards hoping against hope for
one last glimpse of their heroes! Sure, there was some of that
mentality, but overall it was just an overwhelming feeling that seeing
Led Zeppelin was much more than just a night out at a concert! The whole
was so much more than the sum of the parts. There really were literally
millions who wanted to go. Here's a band that's sold HALF A BILLION
RECORDS! They changed the course of modern music. So I think it's a bit
more than just a few stubborn diehard fans pining for the old days.
Plus, we can't forget that a lot of that 1.2 million in sales for
Raising Sand is due to that same group of people. Nech, as you and
others wrote yesterday, you're ready for whatever music any of them makes.
So as I think I wrote in my first reference to the CNN article, instead
of asking about diehards, why not ask Percy how he feels about the
millions who'd rather he work with Led Zeppelin. The answer might remain
the same, but at least the question would be a better reflection of reality.
