I think some of the earlier analysis of this was spot on - I think Mr.
ZoSo had it right. You have to believe that some reporter went up to
Jeff Beck with some lame-ass question like, "Mr. Beck, what do you
think about Jimmy Page's decision to go on the road with Led Zeppelin
without Robert Plant?" - or some stupid variation of that.
Now, I don't think any of us expects Jeff Beck to have
up-to-the-minute details of everything that Jimmy's doing from
day-to-day, so for all he knows, the reporter is giving him the
straight dope. And so he reacts with the kind of quote that we saw.
I very much doubt that anyone asked Beck about the prospect of Page,
Jones, and Jason Bonham going into the studio and creating new
material or going on tour under a different moniker than "Led
Zeppelin" and him giving the same response.
And that's the reason that we have to simply roll our eyes when we see
similar stories in the news (like the McCartney thing).
