Good point. That is the exact reason I do not list the gen on my trading list.

I think most traders are educated enough to know the better the equipment,
the better the dubs. And most know a Nak deck kicks ass, but alot of us
traders are in college,a nd money is *tight*.
All I expect from a trade is the best quality that person can give me. I
use an Aiwa dual deck and I think it makes pretty darn good copies, but
they aren't perfect by any means. We've all had trades where the tape comes
and Rey says its a clear audience recording with no hiss, but our tape
sounds like it was recorded in a bath tub. So what I say, I usually copy
over these tapes and give them to friends. Hell trading isn't perfect, its
just a good way to get cool music.

Now you are sounding concieted and elistist. I don't 'ruin' all my dubs
just because I have a dual deck. It seems to me that you wouldn't be happy
unless Jimmy Page himself was EQing your tape from the professionally
recorded masters!!! :)

This is ridiculous. What makes your low gen, well recorded tapes so damn
desirable? I bet your tapes sound 1/10th better than the same tape dubbed
on average equipment. To me, that difference is inconsequential.

Well that may be true. Its is kind of a shame really. But these are the
same people who seed some killer trees, so everyone else can get quality
stuff. They also usually ofgfer 2:1 trades if you sdon't have that elusive
rare show. I doubt I'll ever be in that 'elite group', but who cares. Sure
the tapes might be marginally better, but I can live with what I get from
the average trader.

In the perfect world we would all have NAK decks and 2nd gen tapes, but
that just isn't the way it it goes. My advice to average traders like
myself is, go after CD sorces. They usually come from low gen tapes and CD
dubs tend to be pretty high quality. Thats what I do, and so far I haven't
really been disapointed.
But restricting yourself to traders who have Nak or equivilant decks, and
low gen tapes will make your trading life very slow.
