You shouldn't think you could even get close to Jimmy sound just by =
buying a nice amp and a nice guitar. Each guitar/amp combination sounds =
differently in the hands of each guitar player.
If you want to get close to Jimmy's sound with equipment only go for a =
Gibson Les Paul (Studio could be a good start...) and some valvey amp =
(Marshall...), but I'm afraid it won't fit in your budget.
But don't think you could even approach Jimmy's sound by plugging a =
guitar into an amp. It may require years and years of playing (and of =
course of listening).
You'd better try to find your own sound (even if you find it while =
trying to reproduce Jimmy's one, we all have tried it before !), the one =
you like, that one may not necessarily be unique, but at least is yours, =
and allow you to express yourself thru music.
Don't forget also that Jimmy's sound you can hear on studio recordings =
took Jimmy tons of hours to refine using quite complex combination of =
guitar, amp, mikes, use of space, natural and artifical echo,......and a =
lot of other things.
That was my $0.02 !
