Hi Badgefolk,
Hmmm, I just received mondays digest, fortunately none of this is
redundant. Enjoy.
BBC Sessions...
***************
I don't know about anybody else (in Aus) but I got my copy of BBC Sessions
yesterday. Honestly, it's a marginal upgrade on all the '69 stuff I had
(except CB from June 16), but the '71 stuff is worthwhile (although this
is more likely because I never had _great_ copies of most of the songs).
There are only three real shortcomings I see with this set:
1 - The liner notes/booklet, not enough of them. Where's the multitude of
rare pictures and track-by-track breakdown of the sessions with (at least)
a paragraph on each song, a'la The Beatles Live At The BBC? (and Anthology
series I hasten to add, the Hendrix estate also excels at this sort of
thing.)
2 - The freaking edits... aaarrrggghhhh, having boots of these shows and
knowing that there's more to them is a little frustrating. Check out the
deleted intro on HMMT, the (almost) complete lack of Plantations (I think
he says 'Thank you' after STH and that's it for both CDs!). While the WLL
medley is still fucking good, it would have been really special if For
What It's Worth, Honey Bee and The Lemon Song were left in. I know this
has been discussed already, but you really need to hear it (and I was too
busy to post then! :).
3 - I'm not sure how to phrase it, perhaps a lack of 'atmosphere' in some
of the tracks, or is that the small amount of audience noise at the start
of some of the songs that isn't there, maybe the missing Plantations? :)
Could it be that CD 2 doesn't seem like a 'real' concert (not unlike TSRTS)
_because_ they seemingly play for 75 minutes non-stop? I think boots have
spoiled me (and you?) to a certain degree, but don't worry Jimmy I'll
still be forking over the $300 for that 10 CD live _Boxed Set_ I know
you're planning. :)
On the whole, I think the casual fan will enjoy this set for what it is:
Live Led Zeppelin.
It deserves to (and should) do well. It _is_ a welcome addition to their
catologue and despite what I've just said, I still think it's the bee's
knees, or is that the cats pyjamas? ;) Whatever.
Can someone please straighten me out on this...

What happened to the Nov 18 release date?
It went from 11/11 to 18/11 to 10/11?!?!
Zepp references on TV...
************************
I believe 'young' Homer has a poster of the LZI cover on his wall in one
of the episodes where he has a flashback.
Hey Nathan, how about a repost of thatlist with all the updates?
Fav scene from TSRTS...
***********************
> I always felt bad for that guy too, Peter Grant was sorta being a
> dickhead, although in a way I understand where he was coming
> from.....
Ha! This scene is hilarious, with Grant absolutely going over the top top
top top...
"As long as there's another nickel to be made out of
exploitingLedZeppelinit'sgreat."
it's the way he says this that's such a crack up.
Other fav bits include Jimmys outstanding strutting during Rock And Roll
(esp the backwards step thing he does that they used for the TRB clip),
and Robert wiggling his hips during Dazed (can't remeber which bit sorry),
this one is funny and cool at the same time.
Just a small aside, people mentioned the cops that let the two guys in -
don't they ask one of the film crew if they should let them in, to which
he replies "If it's up to me, yeah"?
More on TSRTS...
****************
I just d/l'd a copy of the original TSRTS promo (from theatres) from
Electric Magic, it's really cool check it out! Anyway, at the end I'm
amazed to discover that it orignally had a PG rating? With Grant shouting
obscenities all over the place and Jimmy drinking that... uhh... 'sample'
you'd think it would have been at least M.
That last bit IS A JOKE... let me repeat: that last bit IS A JOKE!!! If
you've read HOTG then you'll get it.
Bye!
Chris
