National Scholar-Athlete Awards


ERIKA EISENHUT
Union College (NY) – Schenectady, New York
Soccer, Basketball, Softball – Forward, Guard, Outfield
Mathematics & Psychology – GPA 3.826 – Division III Woman

Athletic Achievement:
Erika excelled in soccer, basketball, and softball. She received the Union President’s Commission Senior Athletic Award. In soccer, she was 1 st Team All-State for three years, NSCAA/ADIDAS 1 st Team Regional All-American in 2005-2006; she was twice UCAA First Team All-Star as well as and Liberty League First Team All-Star in 2005-2006. In basketball, Erika was UCAA First Team All-Star in 2003-2004 and Liberty League First Team All-Star in 2004-2005 & 2005-2006.

Academic Achievement:
Erika has a 3.826 in mathematics and psychology. Erika was on the Dean’s List 2003 through 2006. She was the Eastern College Athletic Conference Robbins Scholar Athlete in 2005 & 2006 and the NYSWCAA Scholar Athlete in 2006. Erika was Division III First Team Academic All-American in Soccer 2005-2006. She also received an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship and was a NCAA Woman of the Year Finalist.

Community Service and Leadership:
Erika was involved in the America Reads Program, and Big Brothers – Big Sisters. She mentored local 5 th grade girls and a Girls Scout Troop. She worked on Habitat for Humanity and Relay for Life 2005. She also volunteered as an assistant soccer coach for a U-12 club and volunteered at Valley Health Services.

 


ADAM DUERFELDT
Central College – Pella, Iowa
Baseball – Catcher
Chemistry – GPA 3.88 – Division III Man

Athletic Achievement:
Adam was named Iowa Conference baseball Most Valuable Player and All-Iowa Conference First Team in 2006. He holds school records in most career hits, highest season and career batting average, highest season on-base average, highest slugging percentage, longest hitting streak, most career total bases, most career doubles, most season and career triple, most career RBIs, and most season and career putouts.

Academic Achievement:
Adam has a 3.88 and he completed a senior honors project in chemistry. Adam received an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship. He was named the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American College Division III Player of the Year for 2006. He was awarded the Madison and Lila Self Graduate Fellowship from the University of Kansas where he is pursuing a Ph.D. in medicinal chemistry to conduct cancer research.

Community Service and Leadership:
Adam volunteered at the Christian Opportunities Center in Pella, Iowa. He participated in the Best Buddy program and spent social time with disabled individuals. Adam helped initiate Tim Heggen Foundation that was named after a late family friend. The Foundation provides scholarships to first-year undergraduate students and donates money to pancreatic cancer research. Adam has dedicated his professional life to researching ways to reduce and eliminate suffering endured by cancer patients.

 


REBECCA WOODWORTH
Union College (KY) – Barbourville, Kentucky
Soccer & Basketball – Goalkeeper & Forward
Mathematics & Secondary Education – GPA 4.00 – Division II Woman

Athletic Achievement:
Rebecca was a four-year starting goalkeeper, including for Union’s NAIA National Tournament Teams in 2002 and 2003. The team went to the Final Four. Rebecca set records for the most saves in a game (28) and most saves in a season (249). She is second all-time in career saves (654) and second in program history with 29 career shutouts. Rebecca played off the bench most of her basketball career, starting three games her senior year. She averaged 2.75 points and 2.21 rebounds per game during her career.

Academic Achievement:
Rebecca has a 4.0 in mathematics and secondary education. She was the valedictorian of the 2006 senior class. Rebecca was three-time Academic All-Conference in both basketball and soccer. She was a basketball NAIA Scholar Athlete in 2005-2006 and was a two-time NAIA Scholar-Athlete in soccer in 2004 & 2005.

Community Service and Leadership:
Rebecca worked with a children’s ministry at her church and with the Bulldog Buddies, a big brother-big sister program operated by the college. Rebecca participated in Repair Affairs for four consecutive years, spending three of the last four summers in a home repair ministry called Impact Florida.

 


RYAN KOCH
St. Cloud State University – St. Cloud, Minnesota
Football & Track & Field –WR & Javelin and Decathlete
Computer Science – GPA 4.00 – Division II Man

Athletic Achievement:
Ryan was wide receiver on the football team. During his senior year in 2005, he tied the school record for receptions (73). He was All-North Central Conference First Team in 2003 and 2005. In track and field, Ryan was a three-time NCAA Division II All-American in the decathlon and a four-time NCAA qualifier. He was NCAA second place finisher in decathlon in 2006, fourth in 2004, and sixth in 2005. In 2006, Ryan was the St. Cloud State Senior Male Athlete of the Year.

Academic Achievement:
Ryan has a 4.0 in computer science with a minor in Spanish. Ryan is a 2005 Draddy Trophy Finalist. He is a recipient of a 2005 National Football Foundation Scholarship and a 2006 NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship Award for track & field. Ryan was ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American in football and track & field and was All-American Team Member of the Year for track & field.

Community Service and Leadership:
Ryan was an Athletes in Action Campus Leader and Campus Crusade for Christ member as well as a Lector at the Newman Center. He was a Richard Greenhouse tutor. He has been a pediatric brain trauma and a pediatric cancer patient special event volunteer at St. Cloud hospital. He was a Boys and Girls Club special events volunteer. Ryan was also an Athlete for Success in the Classroom Peer Tutor.

 


SARAH LOWE
University of Florida – Gainesville, Florida
Basketball – Point Guard
Political Science & Spanish – GPA 3.90 – Division I Woman

Athletic Achievement:
Sarah appeared in 115 career games, missing only two games to interview for the Rhodes Scholarship. She had 376 assists, a 76.2 free throw percentage, 176 steals, and 75 three-pointers in her career. She scored her 700 th career point on a game-winning free throw in overtime against then No. 2 LSU. She also provided a stellar performance in the Florida victory over Tennessee in Knoxville.

Academic Achievement:
Sarah has a 3.9 GPA in political science and Spanish. She was a 2005-2006 Rhodes Scholar finalist and a 2006 Fulbright Grant recipient. Sarah is also a 2006 NCAA Postgraduate scholarship recipient. She was the national recipient of the 2006 Arthur Ashe, Jr. Female Sports Scholar of the Year. She was also the 2005-2006 SEC Women’s Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Community Service and Leadership:
Sarah participated in Big Brothers and Big Sisters from 2003 through 2006. She participated in Goodwill Gators for four years to encourage area youth to stay in school. Sarah also volunteered at Project H.O.M.E. for two months advising adolescents in an Entrepreneur Club and working with teen job placement. She volunteered in Tanzania during the Summer of 2006, teaching English to children in an orphanage after teaching herself Swahili. Sarah was also team captain for three years.

 


STANLEY RAY WHITE II
The Ohio State University – Columbus, Ohio
Football – Fullback
Business Administration – GPA 3.80 – Division I Man

Athletic Achievement:
Stan was starting fullback for 2005 & 2006. He has spent a majority of his time blocking for his teammates on the 2005 & 2006 Buckeye football teams.

Academic Achievement:
Stan has an undergraduate 3.80 GPA in business administration. In addition, Stan is studying for a Master of Business Administration in Corporate Finance. His overall GPA is 3.7. He is a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma and the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. Stan was Academic All-Big Ten in 2003 through 2005. He won a Pace Setter Award in 2005 and the John Galbreath Award as the best student football player in 2004.

Community Service and Leadership:
Stan has been a leader on the football team, acting as a team player counsel, a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Board, and Committee Chair of the Academic Rewards Committee. Stan also participated in I.C.A.N. Camp with orphan children during the summers of 2000 through 2003. He has served food to the needy at Columbus area food pantries from the fall of 2002 to the present. And, Stan also taught football techniques and life lessons to campers at the Gilman Youth Football Camp. Stan provided outreach and public speaking once or twice per month at local area churches, youth groups, and high schools. His topics included leadership, commitment, faith, ethics, and moral values.
