What Cosmic is refering to is correct for the rest of the song
(i.e. the O's on the E string), that would be an open string
played, but if you were referring to the o's in the first measure I
am not sure what the auther is meaning.
Looking at the tab, the lower-case o's (not the 0's) can only mean
that the figure enclosed between the o's is repeated seven times (see
the "7x" indicated immediately afterward). I don't think I've never
seen that in tablature before, though.
At first I thought they might mean "mute strings so as not to strike
them accidentally when playing the F# octave pattern," but if it were
that, the "o" on the 2nd (B) string wouldn't make sense.
