"Someone mentioned that if it wasn't for Jones that most of us probably
wouldn't like TCV at all..."
I'd say that's an understatement. Dave Grohl was severely bashed here when he
expressed a desire to drum for the new Led Zeppelin and nobody had heard of
Myles Kennedy but he surely wasn't the guy to move forward with Page, Jones and
Bonham once a little Alter Bridge was reviewed. Now Grohl's the man due to his
work with JPJ and there is interest in Myles perspective on his possible
involvement with our boys and what might have been.
I lurk and read and rarely contribute but the consensus I perceive here is
there hasn't been any good music created in the last 35 years. And of course,
that's the wonderful thing about this list and the diverse personal opinions
found.
I turn 50 next month, started listening to Zep when I was 10, they provided the
soundtrack for my life, inspired me to become a musician, yada-yada-yada,
probably the same story for most of the folks on here. But what I have found
is the continuous stream of great rock/blues guitar riff based music that
continues to get me as excited as the first time I put Led Zeppelin II on my
stepdads platter, put on the headphones and had my awakening. Most of it is
not found on radio but neither was the majority of the LZ catalog.
I found a need to remain current in order to be relevant as a musician,
maintain a responsibility to my craft and to try and keep my finger on what was
happening at a grassroots level. I have found no end to great inspirational
rock that definitely owes much of it's inspiration to LZ.
You may not care for Nickleback or Creed or many similar bands that have come
and gone in the last 35 years but the riff based music of these groups are the
"gateway" music for youth that opened the door for many to go back and discover
bands like LZ. Most of these bands pay homage to LZ as a significant influence
and have generated the excitement for countless kids out there who have
discovered rock-n-roll and the wonderful community of folks who share the
passion. There's a lot of great music out there today folks and TCV is just
the tip of the iceberg...
