The natural extension of musing whether or not any of us would be
buying/listening to/attending shows of Them Crooked Vultures is to
look back at everything else affected by Led Zeppelin in your life.
Would I have music from Willie Dixon and Robert Johnson or any other
blues stuff if not for Zep adapting their songs? Nope. Would I be
likely to be able to identify any works of Chopin or Gustav Holst if
not for Jimmy Page? I'll expose my lack of culture and admit the
answer is... no.
The general list of "If not for Led Zeppelin..." is pretty lengthy.
How much appreciation would I have for the songs covered by Robert
Plant if not for the fact that he sang them? Probably not much. I
can pretty safely say I would never have purchased and enjoyed Love's
Forever Changes album.
