Re: 2 New Zep Books

This is surprising having read Wall's blog for awhile. He seemed keen on
writing a definitive book on Zeppelin. If this is true (not questioning you
Meg, but is your friend a reliable source), I can see Wall being ostracized big
time by the circle of friends and acquaintances we read about all the time on
Halfin's blog.

I have no doubt that these topics will be covered in any "non gushing fan book"
about Zeppelin. To ignore them completely would seem like a whitewashing. Jimmy
was pretty strongly interested in Crowley and the occult. He did work on
Lucifer Rising. There were underage groupies. The bad karma on the band thing
was more of a media invention, but it did exist (the controversy). Page and
Plant did have conflicts. And JPJ was sadly left out of the 90's collaboration
between Page and Plant.

This being said, if the book is dominated by this all to the point where it
becomes the underlying theme, as was the case in Davis' book, then it reduces
the effort to just another tell-all, sensationalist trash book not worth the
paper used to print it. If, however, these aspects are brought up in the
context of the **whole** story of Led Zeppelin, then so be it. There are lots
of gushing fanboy books out there plus there are the Davis and Cole books
trashing the band. Somewhere in between, there's got to be room for a book that
tells the whole story, warts and all, but also reveals new insights.
