Re: Books on Rock (SZC) (was Jimmy Page's Biography/Books on Rock (SZC)

Here are my top ten faves:

1) Diary Of A Rock And Roll Star (Ian Hunter), Ian's 'on-the-road' diary of
Mott The Hoople's American tour in 1972. Written with humor, wry perception,
intelligence and soul by the shaded one, this is hands down, the BEST book on
rock and roll that I have ever read.

2) All The Young Dudes (Campbell Devine) Very in-depth bio on the Hooplers,
although it seems a bit skewed towards Ian
Hunter. Dale Griffin (the drummer, Buffin) and Overend Watts (bass player)
have distanced themselves from this book, although I think it's because the
author C. Devine promised them approval rights before it got published, and
neither of them saw the manuscript. Still, one of my fave books, EVER!!

3) Heavy Load (David Clayton and Todd K. Smith) Free biography

4) Roomful of Mirrors (Chuck Cross)

5) Saucerful of Secrets: The Pink Floyd Odyssey (Nicholas Schaffner)

6) Stoned (Andrew Loog Oldham) another must-read!

7) Mystery Train (Greil Marcus)

8) Fargo Rock City: A Heavy Metal Odyssey in Rural North Dakota (Chuck
Klosterman)

9) The Complete David Bowie (Nicholas Pegg)

10) (tied!): Moonage Daydream (Mick Rock) Blood And Glitter (Mick Rock)
Not bios, per se, but two fascinating photography books by the great rock
photographer. MD has insights and observations of the Ziggy Stardust tour by
David Bowie.

I definitely want to check out the other books you mentioned, Josh!

Keep groovin',

Constance
