First off, I wouldn't call this release the Holiest of Holy Grails.
Maybe for the time being, but I think the holiest of Holy Grails would
be the release of a complete 1968 show (before December 30), maybe
even with Good Times Bad Times and/or Your time is Gonna Come (both
complete and not part of a medley), and even better if the band's
introduced as The New Yardbirds. Now THAT would be incredible... to
me, anyways. Though for now, I agree, the Earls Court footage is the
biggest release we've ever seen.
And no offense, but I can use your argument against EVERYBODY who
brought about the release of Royal Orleans' Led Zeppelin and the Holy
Grail.
When Eric at Fisheads first announced this release, everyone, myself
included, was extremely excited. Never thought we'd see such a
beautiful thing. Never. I mean, holy fucking cow! Earls Court, May
25? Near Complete? FOOTAGE?!?!?!?!?!?! Hear it it is, with sound,
and even the MC Introduction! Who could have asked for more? Who
could have asked for better?
Well, apparently, everyone who got the release and watched it.
As soon as it hit the street and reviews came up, the main things I
saw out of everyone, from Planet Zeppelin, Royal Orleans, Electric
Magic... hell, I even saw it here on FBO... was "why didn't Condor use
the better audio source for the night? It's great, but there's such a
better one out there."
Where were you, Nech, when they were all complaining about Condor's
source? Where were the people like you making your same arguments
then?
This is why Royal Orleans upped the Holy Grail. Because it used the
supposedly "better" source. But nobody called these people out on
their complaints.
But I do find it interesting that while everyone else can complain
about Condor's version, I can't complain about Royal Orleans' version.
All I'm saying is that I prefer Condor's source to Royal Orleans
because the audio source used in the Holy Grail is all treble and
little-to-no bass. That's all I'm saying. On a comparison, I
personally like Condor better. Why do I get yelled at for saying it
when people actually complained about Condor's source so much that
Royal Orleans upped one with the supposedly better source? Not upset
or offended, mind you, but I am curious.

Get yourself an equalizer and a subwoofer...I hear plenty o' Jonesy.
You're not gonna get much better than this unless you steal Kevin
Shirley's working tapes. I don't think people would've gone thru the
trouble of synching the two sources ( condor vid & GM audio ) if they
didn't think it was better.
On top of that...you're spoiled. Do you have any idea how long traders
and fans waited for even the most horrid of gen video snippets of this
to leak out ? The Holiest of Grails?!?! Whole trade lists and LZ groups
long pondered and discussed if it even existed...and if it who...WHO had
it...ANYONE REMEMBER THOSE DAYS???!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not all that long
ago either mind you! I remember about 8+ years ago when I got the first
glimpse of EC via just a snippet of IMTOD & Tangerine on a VHS tape and
then had to be sworn into a super secret uber solemn society lest my
nads be chopped off by the Ghost of Grant and never ever see a trade
come my way again and was estatic to have this blurred, color bled to
death, barely audible, video clip. And you foresake that joyous memory
by whining about a lack of bass. Get thee to a nunnery!
Why I oughta get my ass down to GEorgia and not only teach you some
proper grammar and spelling but also some reverence for the fact that
you have a DVD copy of THE WHOLE SHOW and it cost you nothing more than
some blank dvd's and your school's bandwidth.
HARUMPH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Other than that, get yourself an equalizer.
