What would I pay?

Nech queries "Would you go ? How far would you be willing to go ? How much would you pay to see Zeppelin at today's prices ?"

There really isn't much I can imagine I wouldn't do to see such a reunion. I'd gladly pay $1000 or more for a decent seat. I'd travel across the country. I'd fly to Europe. Short of my kid needing one of my organs, there's pretty much nothing that would keep me from going.

This notion of skipping a reunion because of lack of authenticity, that Bonham's not there, "I only want to hear new material", "I'd rather listen to old bootlegs" strikes me as preposterous wankerhood. Pretentious, "High Fidelity"-style blowhard dorkiness of the highest order. People like that are the same as the geeks who refused to see Spider-Man because of organic webs. Fine, stay home, better seats for me. A good friend of mine is a huge Who fan, he skipped their tour 5 or 6 years ago mouthing all those platitudes. Then Entwhistle died. He regrets that decision to this day.

It's all academic. It's not going to happen. Let's face it, for starters: Jimmy's retired. Who knows if he even picks up a guitar anymore. The antipathy between Plant and Jones, between Plant and Page, who knows if any of them talk to each at all. Jones is doing his own thing and never struck me as a guy who craves the attention Zeppelin would bring. And Plant seems happy in this traveling troubadour phase of his life as well. In the end, they all have more money than they could ever spend, they've already been to the pinnacle, their mark in history is secure. Why would they even bother? Hey, I'd be the first to nudge Plant, ask him "Don't you want to show the world who's the best?", whisper to Jimmy "C'mon, you're better than the Stones, look how big they still are!", but I think they're past ego now.
