If it's being called Led Zeppelin and Jason wants to do it, then he
should get the gig, provided he can cut it of course. Otherwise I
think Steve Gorman should be a serious contender. The guy has that
groove down!
YMMV
MMDNV. :-)
IMO Gorman was hands-down the closest to Bonham of any drummer to play
with any of the surviving members, post-Zep. With the possible
exception of Terl Bryant. He put down a solid foundation, unlike, say,
Michael Lee, who as we discussed a few weeks back, was always "running
away with the beat."
On the two occasions I saw Page/Crowes, the only track I could fault
Gorman on was Heart Breaker, but only because he didn't throw in any
of the fills those of us who are familiar with the song's live outings
all know and love. He can be forgiven, though--he obviously had only
listened to the studio version!
The present debate is all academic--it's Jason who'll be hitting the
skins in November at the O2.
I sure hope he can cut it, and I hope Mr. Page has been spending the
last few weeks and months rehearsing! The other two seem to be on top
of their game at the moment; I'm not worried.
Oh, and guys? No "Stairway," OK?
