Re: Southampton mixes Question

Now, Shirley mixed down some tracks for a possible release. I wonder if that means he finished some track and left others untouched (if so wich ones?). I 've listened to the show once and to me it sounds like it's a mix in progress on all the tracks rather than a finished job on some tracks.

Anyone has a opinion on this?

Personally I am debating as to wether or not this is *really* a Shirley "working tapes" mixdown or not. I mean, looks at some of the cracker stereo SB's we do have out there...could this just be one of those ?

Consider this...supposedly Jimmy & The Caveman revisited this show in consideration for official release in 2002-ish. Choose '72 Cali instead and we get HTWWW in '003...Am I too really believe that the offices of Messrs Page and Shirley are that open that a working copy made it's way out ? Would Shirley have mixxed down a multitrak so sloppily to include some serious clicks pops and dropouts ? You'd think at least a little work would've been done on that if it was to be presented to JPJ & RP for a listen.... Of course I could be very wrong... It's said that Protools is their program of choice...Hell if I was the bugger that went after this stuff I would've have grabbed the unmixxed raw multitrak protools sessions files and done a much better job in getting this baby out to the public. 20/20 hindsight of course, but if that friggin daw was left unlocked and *I* had at it...Japan would so be kissing my ass.... I'd be the the mothership of all hoarders...it's be like having the magic key in my pocket to unlock all the others' hoarders safes and you'd have Asbury , Carnegie, Seattle Pop....

Of course I'd export all the regions into contiguous files ( hoping of course they at least went for 24 bit 96K ), import the shit into Samplitude ( a real man's tool ) and do a friggin 5.1 that would make my Nobs go sterile. ; )

I'm just throwing some sterno out there....make what you will of it.
