So I'm surfing channels (which doesn't take long since
I do not have cable and the only things that make me
stop and watch are PBS and Azteca America, man gotta
love latin women) a few days ago and as I pass the WB
network I hear "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You". At first I
think wow a cover but after just a few seconds I am in
shock; it is Zeppelin. They play the whole freaking
song over this car accident and the the scene goes to
black and the show is over. I couldn't believe it.
I know Zep has always been restrictive with their
music as compared to other groups and allowed few
movies to use their stuff (Cadillac notwithstanding,
don't get me started) so basically I am like WTF was
that. Does anyone know about this or seen mention of
it? If it is legit, which I am sure it is because of
copyright issues, at least the boys made them play the
whole song! It was kinda cool. It also made realize
how little I listen to the studio stuff anymore.
Anyways did anyone catch this entry in the new "The
Concert File" book for January 22, 1973:
"Tonight's show was a late addition to the itenerary
and was professioanlly recorded on Page's
insturctions.
"In 2002 Page salvaged the tapes for this show for
consideration for release for what would become the
HTWWW official live set. Engineer did mixdwown some
of the performances from this show for possible use
but ultimatelyu they decided to issue the
1972...recordings".
HOLY CHRIST release it Jimmy, it will sell a million
copies and you know it.
FBO Zep cover thingy. I have a recording done very
non professinally with a digital four track recorder
through an external condesor mic of "10 Years Gone".
It is a pretty decent recording for what is
essentially an audience recording. It is from a
practice and is okay performance wise but I would be
interested in feedback. I have it in a wave file and
and MP3 but cannot post it anywhere. Just curious.
Take it light,
Keith Donovan
