How I got into Zepp

I think this got bounced - if not and it appeared already my apologies. However
at least I can tell you all [tho as I havnt got an FBO digest for a day its
been posted already lol] this months Mojo magazine [with Dylan yawwwn...on the
cover]has a 5 page [including pics] interview with Sir Percival where SHOCK!
HORROR! he actually talks abput Zepp!!
Heres my 4 pennuth on why I love and got in to Zepp...
Von's "Tokienesque" length reminisces in yesterdays digest of how she got in to
Zepp inspired me to send this slightly smaller missive

I loved Zepp since 1970 when I got iii in a sale for £1.50. Ive still got it,
in good nick with the original Atlantic plum and red label with "do wha thou
motest" [y'know the Crowley saying]. I remember when Zepp iv came out I couldnt
afford it as I was only 14 and dint have a job then so I had to wait till
Christmas and I knew I was getting it cos Id made my mum promise and I could
hardly sleep with excitement on Christmas Ev cos i was getting to open the
12"x12" parcel under the tree the next day!! Back then I couldnt read enough
about them but in those days, especially the early to mid - seventies you only
had New Musical Express, Melody Maker and later Sounds each week so any gig
reviews were devoured and it sounded so exciting like the musical equivalent of
WW3! aLL THIS CONTRIBUTED TO THE MYSTERY AND ROMANCE OF zEPP which just
enhanced the music even more and when you saw pics of Jimmy with his dble neck
or Les Paul slung round his knees, and the stage shots with Bonzos kit and the
Zoso symbols it just seemed so EXCITING and powerfull. I just loved the music
- mainly the more straight ahead rocky stuff initially like Celebration Day
[still one of Jimmys most underrated guitar breaks ]and the way Heartbreaker
segued into Livin Lovin Maid [jeez why did the Zepps dislike LLM so much it
ROCKS!] Black Dog and especially Rock n Roll were literally worn out in the
grooves and me and my musical buddies were rock music snobs and didnt believe
in playing a track more than twice in a night as it was like commercialising
it, so it shows how special the Zepp 4 stuff was. THAT really was the album
that totally cemented my permanent love affair with all things Zepp - Stairway
back then was indescribable in its evocation and brilliance. I mean wouldnt you
love to go back in time and hear Stairway for the first time again just to
appreciate what a cataclysmic impact [no exaggeration]it had on your
ears.[Likewise id love to do the same with the Beach Boys Good Vibrations and
some other classics!] , So these were!
  my main
experiences of Zepp as a teenager - apart from the periodic release of the
albums - a major event itself - but theyve lasted with me all my life.
So thanks to FBO and the lovely people on it [you know who you are so i wont
name you in case i offend by missing someone out well ok Von, Tim Coates, Anne
Circo, Angie Kiker, Nech Mark McGennan, [and to anyone i missed my apologies]
I can actually get and hear the actual shows and see performances which is like
reliving my teen years again!!
