Can't say that I follow Plan't solo career like I
did when Manic Nirvana came out, but I was
gigantically disappointed in Dreamland. Here's
someone who had me as a high school kid checking
out the Mission or Gang Of Four because he
mentioned them in interviews, someone who has
done amazing covers previously (8:05 specifically
comes to mind, as does a version of Season of the
Witch I heard live that had me hunting it down
for months in the pre-internet days) and
impressive taste in music (the Love covers, etc)
and then puts out these limp versions of them.
Maybe my expectations were way too high, but that
album is more of what could and should've been
instead of what it was.
And guitarists, has anyone mentioned Elvis
Costello? Highly underrated. And add me to
Django Reinhardt fans. Dude couldn't even use
all his fingers!
