Plant's uncanny sense of humor:
PB: Why was John Paul Jones left out of the fold?
RP: [Getting agitated] Well, can you tell me...I understand the tone of
this. Can you explain to me why anybody should be included in anything?
PB: Well, they don't have to be included.
RP: No, but I mean what's the psychological leap that says if I work
with Jonesy on a project that Jimmy's gotta be involved? I'm not getting
on your case, and you have to ask these questions, but I'm not married
to Jonesy. He hasn't kissed me on the mouth for years.
Playboy 2001
Me: I interviewed John Paul Jones yesterday. He's in town.
Robert: Yes, hooking on 42nd Street where he belongs.
Me: And he's promoting that nice group The Mission U.K. that he
produced. And he's helping them out, which is nice.
Robert: Fabulous.
Me: I think it's nice.
Robert: I think it's a very big gesture on his behalf. I mean, otherwise
he'd be in Great Britain, in Devon, where it's freezing cold and boring,
with his wife.
Details, July 1988
Ha ha ha. I think Plant forgot JPJ's number for fear that Jonesy would
( & should've ) clocked him one on his funny little noggin.

Take one large pinch of salt and throw over your shoulder, haven't you
got Robert's humour after all these years.
The Mighty Rearranger indeed.

Of course we can speculate all we want but only these guys really
know what went down or what their own intentions were. A good example
is the report that the new interview quotes Page as expressing
surprise about JPJ's consideration of leaving Zeppelin for a
choirmaster job. What I find especially maddening about Robert is
this feeling that he throws these comments out there for his own
amusement knowing full well that hardcore fans hang on his every
word. He's been playing this game for years and eventually it deep
sixes his credibility, as least it certainly did so for me.
