Now here's something that's been bugging me for years, and I've never seen a
satisfactory explanation... Maybe I should have asked JPJ when I had the
chance.

Time and again we hear about the mellotron going out of tune, etc.; Jonesy
never having the right keyboard technology to reproduce this or that song
properly on stage, yada yada. Let's pick a date. A relatively early date in
Zep history. 1973, let's say. Now, unless I'm very much mistaken, by that
time people like Wakeman (in Yes), Emerson (in ELP) and Banks (in Genesis),
to name a few, were using all kinds of sophisticated keyboard gear in
concert, and it sounded great. Why did JPJ never have a similar rig? At
least by '75, you'd think he would have converted to better gear on stage.
When was "In the Light" recorded? Early '74? The keyboard intro on that
track sounds very modern; I'm not sure what kind of synth it was, but it
sounds better than anything he ever used on stage.

Speaking of Keith Emerson, I believe he sold Jonesy his Yamaha GX1 synth.
