Challenge to Hoarders and Other Thoughts

1. It's a habit of mine to challenge the hoarders lurking on the list
from
time to time. So here it goes. Be a hero. Release something to the
masses
that most haven't heard/seen before. You don't have an obligation to
do so.
You'll probably lose good trade bait, and probably a lot of money
that you
could have made to bootleggers. However, money can be spent and will
be
forgotten after a while. Releasing a great uncirculated concert can
make you
a great person in the eyes of Zep fans for a long long time.

2. That being said, if you want to make your money from what you've
worked
hard to acquire, then please do. You'll get paid, and we'll all get a
new
show, probably via a Japanese bootlegger.

3. I'd like to uncover a show or two myself. Just to prove that
someone can
do the work and just let it out to the masses for free. Does anyone
have any
tips or advice as to how to search for lost shows? Should I place
ad's in the
local papers, bulliten boards etc..? What's worked for other people
in the
search for Zep concerts?

4. Since I have access to a lot of books, I do searches for Zep stuff
from
time to time. I was able to get a copy of "Live Dreams" right before
Christmas. Now it looks like I might be able to get a few more copies
at only
$19.95 a piece. If it comes through and is the same "Live Dreams"
that I'm
hoping it is, I will order the entire stock left in the warehouse and
trade
them out.

5. During one of my searches I came across a book called "My Night as
the
Right Fifth Member" by Rob Wesley. Here is what it says: Synopsis
The author, son of a dance-era musician and a popular radio
personality,
relates an experience with the now-famous rock band Led Zeppelin in
Pittsburgh, January 1969 (Hunt Armory) when he was 16 years old and
ended up
playing guitar with and joining the band, only to be pulled by his
former-musician father. He also shares the profound later effects the
incident had on his life and in his search for self-understanding.
Has anybody read this? Know what it is? It's not available for order
so for
now it's a mystery book.

6. Are there any writers on the list that would like to talk about,
well
writing? My girlfriend is not interested in the novel I just finished
writing. Anne Rice is much better. Well of course she is, blah.

7,8,9. The whole "this band sucks, no that band sucks, can't we all
just
agree to disagree" discussion was interesting and entertaining. In my
opinion, a vast majority of the rock bands out there now days just
aren't as
talented as the bands from the 60's and 70's. That's not to say that
they're
crap, or that they suck. That's a matter of opinion. But a lack of
talent
isn't. Page, Clapton, Beck, Hendrix, Santana, King, Gilmour, West,
etc etc
etc, had and many still do have incredible talent. They're were/are
able to
play guitar in ways that baffle the mind. Many guitar players now
days just
get that pendulum arm swing going and change chords every few
minutes. Some
even have three guitar players although you can barely tell that even
one is
playing. There is no experimentation, or pushing the envelope, or
improv.
Many people have added a seventh string. They should learn to play
the first
six first. Or maybe just tune down the guitar. I play guitar as a
hobby and I
can tell you that playing like Jimmy is nearly impossible, but
playing like
any band out there now is easy. My little sister could be a member of
Korn. A
lot of modern rock guitarists like to bash classic rock for being
excessive
and for long solos. This is because they are not capable of doing
those
things. It's a lot easier and popular to hate Bill Gates for being
the
richest man in the world, than getting a job and trying to work and
catch
up. It's easier to make everyone think something is bad than to try
to attain
it yourself.

10. I heard a DJ talking about how classic rock sucks now. How it's
outdated
and burned out. How it was only good for it's time, but now we have
new
stuff. Does that mean that Mozart sucks now because it's outdated?
It'd be
nice if people could just enjoy good music regardless of when it was
created.
