Who knows why? But, it's true: Aerosmith is one of the few bankable
acts
in rock music today, and they're bought by young people. They get
their
songs in movie soundtracks... and they put out great videos....
they're MTV
& VH1-friendly... they can tour without pulling their back out,
breaking up,
etc... The target audience of the music industry is the 16 year old
and,
let's admit it, the average 16 year old has no clue who Jimmy Page
is. But,
they love Aerosmith.
Hey- I'm not happy about it, either. But, let's face it. It's not
ART.
It's the DOLLAR that rules the music industry... and Aerosmith today
makes a
much better selling product than Plant, Page, Jones, McCartney could
ever
muster. Aerosmith could ejaculate into a Pepsi bottle, and Sony
would sell
it for $17.99. A great video could air on MTv. And, opening night
live of
the "Ejaculate Tour" (sponsered by Miller Genuine Draft) would be
b'cast on
VH1. The DVD would feature multiple angles and have interviews &
outtakes.
And... it would sell.
Perhaps part of it may be their attitude?!?! The members of
Aerosmith seem
to get along with one another & enjoy their history... unlike bands
like the
Beatles and Zeppelin who can't get along, won't tour, won't/can't
play their
hits, make their fans wait for "the big reunion" that'll never
occur...
