A very fair question! The decision to run another event so soon was
more Andy's than mine, although I have to admit that I am in favour of
it. For those who are interested, here's a brief history of the AD
events and a word about our current and future plans.
There have been six AD events so far. All have been held at The
Eastern
Monk, a large public house in the City of London, although the last
two
events have been two-day affairs with live music being staged at The
Half Moon in south east London. The events have been held roughly
every
six months:
Nov 1998: Anniversary Daze
May 1999: AD II (MayDaze)
Nov 1999: AD III (Magick Daze - The Return of the Ledi)
May 2000: AD IV (Mobile Daze - Court in the Act)
Oct 2000: AD V (Campaign Daze - Completely Bonzo)
May 2001: AD VI (Untitled Daze)
Personally I had reservations after AD IV as to whether we should
continue with what was becoming an established schedule. The event
had
grown every time but it was starting to feel a bit repetitive in some
ways. Andy, though, was keen to press ahead with AD V. As has been
documented, attendance at that event was hit by severe weather and
travel problems.
Undeterred, we laid plans for AD VI with the intention of making it
the
only event for 2001. We also decided that we should probably say our
goodbyes to the Monk thereafter and move on to other venues in new
locations with more appropriate facilities. We started making
enquiries
and when the Limelight Club offered us August 4th this year, we just
couldn't turn it down. The date is hugely poignant to Zep fans in
Britain - I know most people on this list have a low opinion of the
Knebworth shows, but that doesn't stop the many thousands of us who
were
there remembering them as fantastic, unforgettable occasions.
But more importantly than that, the idea of holding an event in a
place
such as Crewe is to make AD accessible to fans who have never been
able
to make it to London. With that in mind, it doesn't really matter
that
it follows just a few weeks behind AD VI, as it will be aimed
primarily
at fans who have not been to previous events. Of course, we hope and
are confident that we will see some familiar faces, but our main
intention is to reach a whole new set of fans. I'm looking forward to
Knebworth Daze immensely - it's something of an experiment but I'm
certain that it will see new life breathed into something that was in
danger of becoming stale.
At this stage we have no definite plans for the next event after
Crewe,
but we are looking out for suitable locations in other regions. Daze
on
the Road - coming your way soon.

It's plain that you're avoiding us on purpose. We're hurt but we know
we will win you back one day.
