Hello, one and all. I have a subject that I would like to discuss. I will
put it into a phrase.
Led Zeppelin and their music cannot be appreciated if you dont realize the
technology they had to work with.I have been a guitarist since the
early/mid-eighties.I got my start with the crudest in equipment. As the
years have gone by,I have upgraded to bigger and better things, but these
havent done nothing but give you ways to cheat.Jimmy did it with a guitar
and an amp mostly.Of course,Mr.Page embraced the newest gadgits, but if you
notice his sound comes across best when "dry".This I suggest is why modern
guitatist are lost because they all have to use a little this and a little
of that to go for the sound. Whereas the greats of the past used the
technolgy of the time to create some of the most timeless sounds ever, and
never to be heard again. I still think that TSRTS:the movie, documents a
Jimmys sound best;Even though it was processed in post production. Ive
never heard a better sound ever come out of an amp/effects combo.I bet the
59'Les Paul helps, but the use of his volume on his guitar produces the
subtle variations in his sound. Greater detail could be found in more areas
of his sound, but in general I want to remind whoever may have read this far
that you cant replicate, but only appreciate. At least thats the best I can do.
