The good thing about reading a whole week's posts in one afternoon is that I
get to experience an entire debate at one sitting. Despite the protests of
some of male members of this list, I have an opinion on Robert, which I'd
like to share:
As others have pointed out, the man *is* incredible. I think he looks as good
in the 90's as he did in the 60's, 70's and 80's. He has his own style of
look, dress and singing and I guess it takes a bit of getting used to if you
haven't seen him before. I have an 18-year-old daughter, who I'm trying to
convert to Zep fandom, and she's become quite a Jimmy Page fan (she's always
had a thing about guitar players). But her first look at Robert Plant was in
July, when she saw the Unledded video for the first time. Her first words
were: ' Is that Robert Plant? Holy shit, he's gorgeous!' She loves to listen
to Jimmy but she loves to look at Robert.
Desiree and I talked about what it is about Robert that's so irresistible and
we came to the conclusion that we don't know. Well, we know, we just can't
put a name to it. Call it presence, charisma, make up a name if you like, but
he's got it. It's the way he sounds and the way he moves; it's the way he can
pout and look seductive as hell and then a minute later smile and look like a
little boy at Christmas. Yes, he's arrogant and egotistical and sexist and
manipulative, but we love him anyway.
All I know is that whenever Robert steps up to the mike stand, grabs the mike
in both hands, leans forward and starts singing (no matter what the song is),
it's 'tingle' time.
