This summer I went to see the Allman Brothers at the New York State
Fairgrounds in Syracuse. Best Allmans show I've seen (out of 5)!! The Zeppy
thing about it was, the opening act was this blues band from Texas called
Mark May and the Agitators. They were good, but nothing that really knocked
me out. I was getting hungry, so towards the end of one of their tunes I
headed down to the concession stands to get a hot dog. Then, rancid meat
sausage in hand, as I'm walking up the stairs to the grandstand, I heard
it...those apocalyptic notes in 3/4 time shaking the whole place...Dazed
and Confused!! I ran to my seat (my dad grinning at me, me in a Zeppelin
shirt) in time to hear what came next...an awesome Zeppelin medley. The
band ripped through some classic riffs, and *then* the big finale; both
guitarists did the solo from Heartbreaker in unison! It blew my mind! To
finish it off, the final blasting notes were a brief chunk of the riff from
The Ocean. As far as I was concerned that was just *damn* cool.
Of course, then the Brothers came out and played a scorching set that was
almost 3 hours long, but only seemed like a few minutes. It was that good
man. :-)
