RFD/Really Fighting Dirty (NZC)

>
Hello to all:
Tony does raise some sense and I do have some questions about the list that
should be brought to the attention of everyone for their own interest sake.

1.How do the people who administer the list defend allowing people to make
flame war posts on the list?

I do believe in the principle of freedom of speech, but in practical terms
it doesn't always apply. It's like yelling fire in a crowded theatre.
Personally, I think that a good rule of thumb of what to say about someone
on the list is you shouldn't say it if you don't have the guts to say it to
their face.

2.Tony says:
>>How can a personal attack (i.e. "goes ballistic") on a long time member
>>>of this list

Whether someone is one the list for years or weeks, is this revelevant? A
person is a person with feelings regardless of how long they are on the list.

3. Part of what deters people from doing these hurtful posts, is to see what
type of action is taken against people doing these bad posts. What it be
such a bad idea to post to the list what happens to people when they do
these inappropiate posts?

4. Obviously through the lack of evidence from the committee members on this
list to take any action on the recent flaming posts, it would be assumed
that the commitee is acting in the best interests of the subscribers of the
list as that is their purpose. Can some of the committee members, explain
why inaction is the best course of action? Maybe some action has been taken
on this situation and we don't know about it.

I know that I should have taken this up on the "eskimo" list as that is the
"proper" proceedure. My defense of this action is simple, not everyone on
this list likes this crap and many contributers of the list are leaving the
list or have stopped posting because they do not want their names associated
on a list with people who like to pick fights on the net. Because, I feel
that my concerns are "what's in the best interests of people on this list"
instead of "freedom of speech", I decided to make my concerns public.

As far as I am concerned, the charter is a good idea on paper, but, many
limitations exist. I think that some form of common sense needs to be used
when judgements are made. As far as I am concerned the idea of letting
someone do flaming posts on the list because of "their freedom of speech" is
the lamest excuse that I've heard. We need some common sense and good
judgement skills to help us detemine what is within reason to post on the list.
