Following Kevin's comments;
I have to agree, hold out for the real deal. Epiphone have nothing to do
with Gibson, in as far as crafting goes. Epiphone's are made in substandard
warehouses in China. They pay their staff next to nothing, make cheap
guitars, and put Gibson's name on them. If you were to go to China you
woudn't find a factory with Epiphone on the front of the building. In other
words the company does not actually exist.
Sorry, Epiphone fans!, but a Gibson should be Gibson.

Greetings to all list members. I am relatively new to the list and perhaps
have some input on Jed311's quandry.
In my opinion if you want to get a Jimmy Page sound you really should hold
out and save your money. Wait for the Gibson Les Paul. You can probably scour
the local buy and sells in your area and pick one up for $800 - $950. I have
several and love my '75 Standard. It is one of the few made that year with
large humbuckers. It has a nice punchy sound - especially on the treble
setting.I picked it up for $900. Consider it an investment.
