Re:As I was pumping irony...

Dear Tabitha and Bill,
The aesthetics of the two old men offset with the two young front men is well
taken. However, I think there was a running joke problem that may have gone on
from nearly the beginning. During TSRTS, when it was aired again last night I
thought I would shift emphasis from Jimmy and Robert over to John Paul and
Bonzo. Now realize, I saw this when it came out in November of '76 and every
chance thereafter within reason and beyond. So it's not like I hadn't really
watched it enough times. But this time I watched John Paul a little more
closely. I now conclude that maybe JPJ had ribbed Robert with sharp little sly
jabs enough over the years that when "In Through the Out Door" was being
recorded that some words passed between them where, Jonesey might have cut
Robert down a peg, albeit wittily, just one too many times for Robert and that
Robert waited and waited and waited for the opportunity for some kind of a bit
of payback. I think it is also possible that the Royal Orleans situation might
have figured into the mix along with numerous other incidents that never saw
the light of day. So I get the impression that the situation between Robert and
John Paul is too thick, and too sticky to deal with.
Sincerely,
Shar
