Montreal 6/7/72 - the full story

Since I posted asking about the source of the Montreal 6/7/72 master tape
that was offered to me a lot of people have expressed curiosity (and some
suspicion) about the exact origins of this tape. Brian Chaloux, who has the
tapes now, sent me the following info, and I've forwarded it to the list
(with his permission) to clear up the confusion and satisfy everyone's
curiosity. Thanks again to everyone who has provided information about this
to me. Our next goal: to figure out the mess of March '70 German dates for
once and for all! :-)

This is how Brian explains things, verbatim:

> Yes there is a ton of confusion about this show. And a lot of unwanted
accusations about me hoarding the end of
>the show! Here is the story. The show was taped on the small 3"reels that
were transferred to the bigger reels at one
>time or the other. After the show copies from the master were made onto
reel with some edits for everyone that went
>to the show with my dad. That was the first part of the show I found was
that copy. Then I learned that up with my
>dad's friend was the copy direct from the master tapes with more of the
show. These reels are very weak! Therefore,
>I had a copy made direct to Maxell XL2S tapes and that is what I make my
copies from. The reels would be
>destroyed if I made this amount of copies from them. The original master
tapes are missing. Nobody seems to know
>where they are but my dad's friend has a bunch of reel to reel tapes in
his basement he is going to go through some
>time. The master tapes may be there and that is a very good possibility.
They ran out of tape at the end of the show.
>You can hear my uncle plain and simple before the show is cut say "I think
it's done now". I do know of someone
>that is hoarding the complete show from a not too good recording but they
played some rare songs in the medley.
>He told me he will let the show out sometime but no plans in the near
future. I hope that solves some of the
>confusion!
