I wouldn't spend more than $100 for most acts. Maybe for Zeppelin themselves
and I had front row, but I saw Page/Plant for $50 and I'm not sure the presence
of JPJ is worth doubling the ticket price (or more).
The Alice Cooper posts remind me of an unpleasant story. A few years back,
when I was playing with Sam Moore (Sam & Dave, etc), we did the occasional show
at Cooperstown in Phoenix. We got the word that Alice wanted us to split some
kind of Christmas show with him. So we said OK and asked how much it paid.
Um, well, um, we'll get back to you. Next day we got a phone call that he
wanted us to play for free. Professional musicians for free--are you kidding
me? We said no, and that was that. What a dick. Even if it was a benefit
(I can't remember), the beer salesmen and the janitors don't work for free. I
love it when rich guys expect you to work without pay.
