I saw this info on an audio forum so I thought I'd pass this on to anybody
looking for the non-SHM version of the Led Zeppelin Definitive Collection
Mini-LP Replica Box Set. Amazon has it on sale today as its "Gold Box Deal" for
$99.99 (regular price $199.99).
Remember this box contains the 1994 remastered albums except for the 2007 remix
of the Song Remains The Same soundtrack. So if you already have those remasters
on CD, the only thing you're really getting the nice mini-LP replicas and CDs
with original labels. The data on the CDs is basically the same (with level on
some of them boosted slightly by about 2dB, which is why some people perceive
it as sounding better when comparing one CD to another on the same system). If
you don't care about the packaging, it's still a lot cheaper to use your volume
control!
Anyway, for those who want the set, here's the link:

By the way, if you're thinking of sending $300 to Japan to buy the SHM version,
be advised that it's exactly the same digital data as is on these discs. SHM
CDs are simply made with a plastic that supposedly is easier for **some** CD
players to read when you play back the CDs on the players. If you rip the CDs
to your computer for MP3 or lossless FLAC file playback, there's absolutely NO
advantage to a SHM disc.
Sorry for adding all the technical disclaimers, I just don't want anyone to get
misled by the usual marketing crap. This box is a good deal for someone in need
of the complete LZ studio catalog, but if you already have it, don't waste your
money!
