I was cringing as well. I'm guessing that someone screwed it up on
the teleprompter; otherwise, she presumably would have corrected
herself... right?
I'm also out of touch with the current music scene. I watched the
telecast via my DVR and fast-forwarded through more than half of it (I
would guess), including all the Justin Timberlake and hip-hop
collaborations (except for the Lil' Wayne thing with Allen Toussaint,
which I tolerated briefly). I could appreciate the Adele/Sugarland
thing - they have nice voices. The 5.1 mix for U2 sounded terribly
hollow... though the music isn't bad, the lyrics are pretty lame.
Radiohead (or 40% of them, anyway) sounded great... I did think of
Fleetwood Mac and Tusk (that was the USC band too, wasn't it?), and I
wondered if Plant appreciated the performance or if he was even
watching.
