Actually received the disc in the mail today and promptly watched all
of the deleted scenes. My favorite is probably the Kashmir bit in
which Jimmy explains the inspiration behind the song, its roots in his
"Swan Song" demo and Bonzo's invaluable addition of the hypnotic drums
during the song's conception at Headley Grange. When Jimmy picked up
the Danelectro and told Edge and White about his DADGAD tuning, I
smiled, but when he started playing, I involuntarily exclaimed
"aahhh..." with satisfaction. Pretty sure there's no one else's
playing that has ever produced that kind of reaction from me.
The other thing that stands out the most is the "Jimmy Plays Acoustic"
segment, which lasts about 2:30 or so. What is that? It's pretty
cool, and it doesn't seem to be titled (not Embryo 1 or Embryo 2 [aka
Domino]). I also liked the Four Sticks piece on the metal guitar like
this one - http://tinyurl.com/Nationalguitar
I watched a few scenes from the main movie as well and it looked
fantastic on Blu-ray, and of course the DTS-Master Audio sounded
incredible when the guys were trading licks on In My Time of Dying.
Great stuff.
For some reason back when I pre-ordered the blu-ray, I had also
ordered the DVD, which I also received today. I've decided to make a
Christmas gift of the DVD to a good friend who was with me the first
time I ever saw a member of Zeppelin perform (JPJ, Cleveland, October
19, 1999). He plays guitar but hasn't had much time for it since his
daughter was born almost two years ago. I think he'll enjoy the film
- he's the one who came up with the idea for this pre-wedding picture
this summer. http://tinyurl.com/allhailZep
if you're wondering, I'm holding this in the picture:
