hi Anton,
welcome to the fbo. jimmy's live rig very simple. one les paul and a
100 watt marshall(s) modified to produce 200 watts with a compresor, a
fuzz/distortion and a vox wah between. there are exact brands and
models info on web if you search. for the most part he keeps the amp's
volume fixed and adjusts the loudness/overdrive with guitar's volume
pot. the only trick part is (as nech mentioned) the phase inverter and
coil splitter switches which i believe affect the tone dramatically.
if i could afford, i'd get a les paul or epiphone and rewire it like
jimmy's. if one can solder and use a screwdriwer it's not that
difficult. if you cannot find the schematic let me know. good luck.

Hello and happy thanksgiving group!
I am not new to the group, just been in lurk mode most of the time. Anyway, I
play guitar and found this great site (at least I think so) at
www.vanderbilly.com. It features hundreds of videos on how to play classic rock
songs with an emphasis on zeppelin. I especially love it because it has some
pretty accurate videos on playing the live stuff from TSRTS. Definitely worth
checking out if you play guitar.
The reason I am writing though is I would like to find out how to get jimmy's
tone from the TRSTS album. Not really interested in acquiring all the amps and
such that he specifically used. Just want to get close to getting that tone
with what I have. I currently play a les paul through a fender cyber twin SE
amplifier, which is a pretty flexible amplifier with modelling circuitry and
effects if anyone is familiar with it. Also have a Boss GT-10 multiple effects
board at my disposal.
Any ideas on how to go about this would be greatly appreciated. Any gearheads
out there experienced in getting Jimmy's tone? Please write me or direct me to
a site that could help. (And I apologize in advance to the admin if this post
is in the wrong format for the list, I dont know how to technically do
otherwise) Thanks!
Anton
