I hope this will be seen as it’s intended, as discussion because
I’m interested, not bitching for the sake of it.

As others have said and I agree – it didn't sound like crap to me at the
time. Early on, it sounded like things were positive and everyone was waiting
for Robert's previously scheduled tour to conclude. It seemed like they were
leaning towards re-forming, but Plant was not available for rehearsal due to
RPAK. No reason the others should sit around waiting, in fact, they certainly
should not have sat around waiting.
But what’s the point of rehearsing without a vocalist, if you plan on
playing music with a vocalist? Tyler said he was just playing with them, not
looking to take Plant’s place, for instance. But then, rumors started to
fly about why they were playing with different vocalists. And the publicity
push begun in ’07 was still going strong.
I don’t fault Jimmy and the others for giving Robert breathing room to
think about this, even if whispers that Plant bowed out in private early on are
true, even if they were auditioning new singers. They left him a way back if
he wanted it, after he’d done his thing. Nothing was public, nothing was
in stone - no one was fucking with his passion. No stakes in fans' hearts,
yet.
Saying there is no Zeppelin without Plant is an equally gracious thing to do.
I too wish the press would take note.
But let’s grant, for the sake of argument, that Page (or someone) was
pushing Plant via leaks to the press. To me, it’s just not terribly
upsetting. At least Page, Jones and Bonham wanted to be and play Zeppelin,
which is fine by me.
If Plant didn’t, it was his responsibility to say so, not theirs. He
could’ve stopped the crap anytime he wanted by coming out with it.
Instead he seemed to be playing this game – “hey, Jim, I’m
kinda busy, mind telling those tens of millions of interested people I’m
pulling the plug on the Zep thing? Thanks buddy – hey, don’t
forget to mention the tour with Alison. Wait, hang on a mo’, maybe I
shouldn’t stir that pot until the tour is over…”
Just an alternate take on things.
