Actually in the Jones/Page interview Nech directed us
to today, JPJ said that the record company was
pressing them for a new compilation. This makes a lot
of sense to me. It's no secret that the music business
is in serious trouble right now. Sales are
significantly down and the days when multiplatinum
sales were commonplace are gone. I recall when the new
Rush album came out earlier this noticing that it made
top 3 in the billboard charts with sales of only
something like 100,000 units. One time a big release
by a band of that calibre would sell a million units
easily just from the established fan base. Of course
Led Zeppelin would go right of the scale. In Through
The Outdoor is frequently credited with boosting if
not outright saving the industry when sales were down
in 1979, so perhaps Warner decided to "call in the
cavalry."
