Wow, this looks almost identical to a compilation I put together
for some FBOers a few years back. Hmmm.
Hmm indeed...
The compilation is missing a few tracks, and there's one blatant
falsehood ("Jamaica" was not reworked as "D'yer Mak'er").
I wondered about that!
On a tangential note... We know Jimmy worked with the Stones, but
what about The Beatles? I'm currently reading Mark Lewisohn's "The
Complete Beatles Chronicle"--it's an essential tome for any
Beatlemaniac, presenting detailed, chronological listings of every
known Beatles performance and recording session as well as their TV,
film and radio appearances.
So I'm reading thru 1963, and mention is made of the BBC program "Pop
Go the Beatles," for which the Fab Four would record a half-dozen of
their songs at a time (these sessions were one source for the "Live
at the BBC" official release and also ended up on a 10-disc boot set
on Great Dane). They would also have guest groups at each session.
One of the earliest such sessions, taped June 1, 1963, featured
Carter-Lewis and the Southerners as guests. The same band then
guested on another "Pop Go the Beatles" program recorded July 10 of
the same year.
Now, it's well known that a certain James Patrick Page was at one
time a member of C-L and the S... So, trainspotters, when exactly was
he in said group, and did he cross paths with the Beatles in the
studio on these or any other occasions?
Btw, the studios in which the Beatles recorded these programs are
familiar names to any Zephead: Maida Vale, Aeolian Hall, BBC Paris
Studio...
