Steve, if this really sound like a new mix to you (I don't have my copy yet), 
that means that they went back to the original pre-production tapes. In the 
1990 interview "Profiled", Jimmy does explain that Marino and him went back 
"whenever possible that is" to the pre-production tapes. Those tapes are pretty 
big and heavy as they are holding every single tracks that were used to make 
the final song, as a reason of one song per tape.

I do believe that some of those pre-production tapes were stole in the infamous 
robbery at Jimmy's home in the ate 80's as we can hear some rough unfaded mixes 
on some studio outtakes bootlegs. 

Usually, when we are remastering a song from that kind of tape, we do have some 
note sheets to tell us every single steps that we have to follow in our 
settings if we want to reprodruce the perfect original final mix.

I'll go buy a copy tommorow...
