I wrote to Steve T yesterday about this and I might as well share:

With all this talk about the Bob Ludwig pressing of LZ II, a light suddenly
went on in my head. For years I've had an older copy of the album that I
picked up for next to nothing--probably $1 at a used record store, or maybe
even a garage sale. Might even have been put out with the garbage by
someone! Anyway, I haven't played it in years, if at all--haven't had a
turntable hooked up to my stereo since '98 or so and that was only to listen
to my old Zep boots when I got back into collecting that year. Before that I
probably hadn't listened to any vinyl since about 1990.

I was fairly sure this LZ II I had was a Canadian red-label pressing, which,
according to Steve in his posts to the Hoffman forum, should sound pretty
good. I went and found it in my modest vinyl collection and sure enough, it
is a red-label issue. Serial # in the deadwax: SD 8236 S-1 (S-2 on side II)
plus a letter "G" (unless it's a number 6) about 1/6 of the way around from
that, anticlockwise, then an "M" another 1/6 of the way around. But no RL
:-(. The original owner had written his original purchase date on the red
label: 01/15/70. Label says "Manufactured and distributed in Canada by
Warner Bros-Seven Arts Records of Canada Ltd." So this is a very early
Canadian pressing, obviously.

It's got a few light scratches but nothing that looks very serious.

Now to find a decent turntable...

LOL!

You never know... Like fine wine, the older the better?
