Yes, I guess that's some of it, Chas. Yet Zeppelin always went out of their
way to speak of the band as being greater than the sum of its parts. The
synchronicity, the cosmic energy, the once-in-a-lifetime recipe for
greatness, etc. With Bonzo gone, the band concluded, in their final press
statement in December 1980, "We could not continue as we were." And they
couldn't and they didn't, but I never figured that Plant thought he could go
on to be as big as Zeppelin on his own. So is he really feeling resentment
that this didn't come to pass? I wonder. Hey, he's got a big enough ego, God
knows. But how many people have gone on to achieve comparable or greater
success as solo acts than they had with their original groups? You could
argue Sinatra, Diana Ross, Michael Jackson and Janis (oh-so-briefly). But
those were never groups comprised of musical equals to begin with. You're
left, then, with Clapton out of Cream, and Windwood out of Traffic.
Certainly not Townshend, Daltrey, Jagger, Richards, Roger Waters, Jon
Anderson, Robbie Robertson or any of Plant's other contemporaries.

The anger Plant is over the fact that he thinks he should be a huge solo
star and he can't break away from the Zeppelin era of his life.
He's just pissed that Zeppelin is the only reason he'll be remembered for.
