BOTM9 part 2.

As Stairway gets under way you can barely hear Jimmy. As I turn it up, I find myself wanting to yell shut the $%^&* up to the audience thru my speakers, but alas I am stuck in my own hell. Plant sounds almost disjointed as he sings but slowly Page makes his way a bit louder into the mix. JPJ's keys are also almost non existent. But they do appear.
echo with Laughter is accented by Plant going " Do you remember ?"
As Bonzo joins the sound changes a bit, it's definately the PA/sbd guys wrecking havoc with this number. After "Piper's calling you to join him" Jimmy does this funny little slide up! Ha! Jimmy gets a good solo going but alas the rest of the song is cut....

We return with the band already midway into BYR Stomp. Looking at setlists immediately following this show I have a feeling we lost an acoustic number or two prior to this one. I'm guessing GTC & TTW. MAybe Tangerine too ? The audience seems to be thoroughly enjoying it loudly clapping along in time and in synch with Bonzo. I swear I catch a tiny hint of Dancing Days during Jimmy's acoustic meandering just before they return to the main number. No Stryder but the loudest applause yet.

The audience remains remarkable quiet as they must be making their way back to their respective electric instruments. Quieter that during Stairway!!!

Without any words from Plant, they start into D&C clocking in today at 23 minutes. Some nasty feedback as Jimmy battles with his Wah Wah ( new batteries?!?!?!? ) Starts off pretty tamely and has some trouble getting off the ground prior to the bow interludes. Although I gotta say it does sound interesting at around the 5 minute mark. vaguely familiar, just can't put my finger on it. 5 minutes of bow work culminate with Mars, Bringer of War and off we go!!! I think Plant wins the guitar voice war today! Although Page is seriously fast the solo just isn't a well greased machine yet as it dosen't flow freely at times. I do think I can safely say it is the first time we hear a snatch of the Crunge since it was recorded only a month or two earlier. a strange twisted MD/ black wavy hair interlude follows with what even sounds like a bit of the MD solo at one point! Like I said , not free flowing. Lotsa moving parts. Tape gets the crinkle treatment as they go back into the main theme. Has its share of moments but not one I'm gonna chalk up as anything special. Nice applause from the audience but I they they were worn out with this one.

WIAWSNB also starts off with Jimmy almost inaudible but works its way up, into your ears, wraps itself around your cerebellum and delivers a one two punch at the end that reminds you just what light and shade are all about. A great simple tight version.

I'm usually a big fan of Moby Dick, but gotta say that this is one where right from the start of the solo, you can tell Bonzo is not going to be boring. He's at full bore right from the get go and has the audience clapping along in time and with fervish as he does some serious skin pounding. From the seven minute mark on I swear you can hear so many things in there it's like he was cramming the whole back catalogue of Zep tunes into there. Bonzo's an absolute steam roller in this one. This is one of my fav MD's and the audience frigging agree. Wow.
John Bonham John Bonham John Henry Bonham!!!! HOOOray!!!!

"Another one from way way back " as Jimmy tunes the dropped D back up to E....and

 and

Madness by the audience as WLL starts. Bonzo is still on his adrenaline rush as he is pounding htem skins as Jimmy makes my ears bleed with the theramin. Is that an effect on his drums or is Jonesy doing something way low...check out the 2 minute mark...I absolutely love how they power into Everybody needs Somebody to Love right before Jimmy's solo. Plant dosen't sing, but I do in my head. The audience is really into it as they clap in synch with the big power chords and Bonzo's bam bam during the solo. Not much noodling before they're doing Boogie Chillun' and get the audience back up and clapping. Although a bit echoey at times you hear all the instruments nice and clear. I love this one break, when everyone stops and Jimmy keeps jamming away! What syncopation between Jones and Bonzo!!!! Then another break and a perfect in the beat segue into Hello Mary Lou. Once again I wonder just how much they rehearsed these moments and how much of it was just feeding off the audience and the mood. I mean, Plant out the blue breaking into Running Bear and them immediately picking up it!!! The virtual music library in their heads! And then Plant morphing that into That's allright. Argk!! a nasty tape warble kicks in....but goes way quick enough. Speaking of feeding off the audience, they are the ones driving the show now!!! They set the pace for Hootchie Kootchie man. Some really nice solo work from Page... Too funny, as Plant is trying to get into something else, the audience just won't let up with tht clapping...clap clap clap clap clap....So Plant and Page ust work off it further driving the audience along. What great interaction!!! Eventually Plant squelches them with one helluva Piercing 'Plleeeaaaaaaaaaeeereeeeeeeeeeeeeesssssseee " and they settle down into Going Down Slow...or is it called The Shape I'm In ? Either way... light and shade, fast and furious, slow and hard and blue....what song are we actually doing?!?!?!?! oh yeah, the Woman woman woman reminds me..WLL!!! and a long mighty Llllllooooveeee seals the deal.
A great WLL. If the sound was better, I'd rate it in the top 10.

" Thank you and good night" ah noooo the audience wants more more more more we want more we want more !!!! we want more!!!!we want more!! we want more!!!!!! What an appetite for the best. They get it....

" Good Evening " " Good Evening" The crowd goes wild as Rock 'n Roll starts and they don't let up for the entire number practically drowning it out at times!!! Sounds like the whole audience is screaming along with the ooh yeah ooh ooh yeahs... What a riotous racous number ....

WE WANT MORE WE WANT MORE WE WANT MORE WE WANT MORE WE WANT MORE faster faster WE WANT MORE!!!!!!! WE WANT MORE!!!!! don;t know how long that went on as there's a tape cut but it returns with the audience a bit more subdued and you hear Plant going.." You gotta sit down...stop...cool it!!! Unless we'll go "

So how do you leave a near riot crowd...why with a nice easy number like Comunication Breakdown! That'll calm things down!!! A barnburner. Jimmy does a wild number with the wah on the solo and they carry on with a rather long funky jam defintely reeking of Hendrix tones at times. Wow wow wow...I wonder if after that last trite "Good night" from Plant they ran off that stage and hid for cover.

Fannnntastic end.
