"I fully understand why Jimmy kept this one in his closet for so long."
...Yeah, it's a bit sloppy, eh?
Plant's voice is rather weak and breaks quite often. Jimmy's playing
is quite a bit more 'loose' than 'tight.'
Nevertheless, it's enjoyable to listen to a Zep show in such quality.
I certainly don't condone it, but this release may reinforce the
argument of those who hoard shows... As long as it stays under wraps,
people discuss it often and it remains in great demand. I imagine if
anyone WAS trading it before, they probably got just about anything
they wanted by using it as a bargaining chip. Once it's out there, it
sparks some excitement for a couple weeks before it's completely off
the radar and becomes a complete non-issue... a bit of a letdown.
I only say this because I was about to say in the first paragraph,
"now if we could only get a release of 9/29/71 in this kind of
quality" but then realized how greedy and essentially spoiled I would
likely sound. I heard myself and thought I probably sounded like the
little kid who tears through all his presents on Christmas morning and
then asks, "where's the rest?" or "is that all?" Just to clarify,
this is not in any way a slam on Nech. I would say he's saying what's
on the minds of anyone who has heard this show.
I'm going to take a few weeks to sit back and enjoy this release for
what it is: a long sought-after show that allows us to hear my
favorite band in an intimate venue, playing a very relaxed concert.
