Ha...
I only mentioned that because it was my girlfriend's immediate
interpretation, after having viewed the two of them for less than 10
seconds or so. I burst out laughing and asked her how she could tell,
but she was fairly confident.
Regardless, their recording the album together is what we should be
discussing on FBO, eh?
These types of unusual pairings usually generate a fair amount of
press coverage, so aside from the fact that the snippets on the
website sound exciting, this should certainly get Plant's name into
the mainstream consciousness. I'm thinking that we'll see the two of
them promoting this album on VH1 Classic (or maybe just plain ol'
VH1), in addition to the country stations that like to hype these
types of 'crossover' projects.
For example, I tend to avoid the radio (and country radio in
particular) but I've still managed to hear more about Bon Jovi's
country-ish efforts than I would have cared to...
Krauss has claimed that a tour is in the works, which would really be
interesting. One wonders if they would just play the songs from the
album, or if they would perhaps try on a few other tracks that were
considered and left off... or even if they would attempt any Zeppelin
(Battle of Evermore, perhaps?) or Plant solo stuff. Hopefully they
wouldn't be drastically abridged (less than the already brief 80-85
minute sets he's played with Strange Sensation) affairs. They could
legitimately add the songs that they performed at the Leadbelly
tribute - especially the haunting "Where Did You Sleep Last Night"
that they sang with such great results in Cleveland.
My point I guess is this - that we may be on the cusp of something of
a mini-renaissance for Plant's career that will see mainstream music
'experts' laud him as if he hasn't been putting anything new out in
years. I'm thinking of what "Supernatural" did for Santana about
seven years ago.
Then again, I suppose it could flop (even if it's good) and both rock
(or..."adult contemporary"...gag) and country radio/tv could ignore
it.
I guess I don't really care, as long as they still tour and I can
obtain some good seats... I'm excited about this.
