sorry if this already been mentioned since i have not checked all
because this mail alone has 38 replies and there are more than 200 to
read but i just wished to point this out. just because i am 5 weeks
behind shouldn't leave this subject in shadow.
valley means vadi in Turkish. therefore tim's thought is correct. also
vadi's root is in arabic or persian like some of words in our
language.

I cut-and-pasted that lyric and only checked it cursorily as I have a pretty
reliable lyric source... I always thought Robert was referring to a "wadi,"
which is a streambed-like valley in the surface of the desert through which
water will run during the rare rainstorms in the desert, hence "stream" -
when dry, which is usual, they're fairly passable roads, and crossing the
desert in the 1970s I'd imagine one would have to travel some wadi roads.
