RE: ANOTHER list that'll have everyone up in arms!!! Jimmy/Robert content!!!!

Gonna chime in here because I think this was probably an intentional
oversight on the part of a Gibson-contracted writer. Gibson has often given
respect to Page as one of the greatest credits to their product - how many
guitarists have their signature instrument recreated for the super-premium
market all the way down to the Marlboro burns?
But this sort of thing goes on all the time - I own a book called
"The Guitar Handbook" that includes a chord dictionary, some playing method,
detailed information on the construction of acoustic and electric guitars,
and (the whole point) a chapter of one-page articles about the very best
guitar players ever. The usual suspects are listed (Hendrix, Clapton, Beck,
etc) along with some ones who could be left out (Andy Summers, Pete
Townshend, the great bassist Stanley Clarke) because someone needs to be
bumped off the list. Why? Not a mention of Jimmy Page in the entire book.
And this book was co-written by the guitar tech for Eric Clapton.
There seems to be a certain mindset amongst a subset of fans that
considers Led Zeppelin to be (surprise, surprise) lowbrow, common no-skill
cock-rock with no redeeming social value. People who lump Zeppelin into a
group with Grand Funk Railroad come to mind. And those people sometimes get
assigned to write things like this. IMHO anyone who's ever listened to the
radio for any length of time will know who Jimmy Page is. And there are
people who will think "Oh, he's a hack playing lowbrow garbage for the
masses, or he wouldn't have sold 300 million records" and leave him off the
list in favor of (as I've seen) Yngwie Malmsteen, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani,
etc.
Oh, BTW, for anyone at Gibson who might see this - Slash himself
HATES Sweet Child O' Mine as a song, never intended to compose it (he was
noodling during a rehearsal and Axl loved it) and hates it to this day and
refuses to practice or play the song live. If you left Jimmy Page off the
list for the above reasons while including SCOM, you're a hypocrite and you
suck.

The whole point of the thread was that Jimmy wasn't listed by GIBSON
themselves. When we all know Jimmy helped make the Les Paul as famous as it
is.
Slash came AFTER Jimmy Page, and does anyone know WHY SLASH plays a LP???
Well
actually the topic was best solos using a Les Paul.

I can't comment much on Slash. However I think SIBLY's solo is better than
Sweet Child O'mine! Although I like Slash's solo on the song, I just like
Page's better! (personal opinion again, and as stated before. I'm biased)

In all the video footage we have of Zeppelin live, the majority of the
time.
Jimmy is playing a Les Paul.

Of course Jimmy uses many many diff. guitars. I think any artist of that
magnitude does. It's just that I dont know how you cannot think of a Les
Paul
when you hear the name Jimmy Page!!

Maybe the word "synonymous" was the wrong choice. However Page once said
something like the guitar was part of his body. If that isn't synonymous, I

don't know what is. Anyway, I don't know if he was talking about the LP or
just
any guitar, AND I'm not trying to argue with you. I don't argue. I was just

saying I agreed with someone else's comment.

Peace,
V
