What, or probably a better question, WHO at The Today show is the Led Head?
Anyone know? I know Matt Lauer interviewed Page or perhaps that was
Page/Plant..don't quite recall now, but it seems over the last few years, as
noted
HERE as well....they tend to play A LOT of Led Zep music in the background of
various segments.
I was dozing this morn, but woke right up when I heard the chorus of "Hots
on For Nowhere", I noted the time, and segment, which was approx. 7:42 a.m. my
time (USA Central) ..and the segment was (from what I gathered) something
about Race Cars and heart monitors...
Maybe it's the network itself, as I seem to recall during the last Olympics,
several people reporting hearing some Zeppelin, and was not the Olympics
covered by MSNBC? Thinking about it, I seem to recall hearing some Zeppelin
myself. I could be wrong about the network thing....anyway, just a thought.
I also would like to address the Jerry Lee Lewis "live" performances. I've
seen him at least 4-5 times on various late nights talk shows as well as The
Today Show yesterday.(never has he had Jimmy Page w/ him) Plainly put, I
didn't hear anything fantastic, and nothing I have seen/heard sounds remotely
like what's on the actual CD. I mean if I didn't know better, and all I had to
gauge his new CD by, WAS these very live performances, I certainly wouldn't
buy it. (knowing better tho and having the CD, it is GREAT and I LOVE IT)
That "Jimmy" who is playing guitar, did absolutely nothing for RnR
yesterday. When I said Page could play Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and make it
sound
good and you'd KNOW it was Jimmy Page on guitar, because of his "sound",
"style", "nuance" etc...I think yesterdays performance of RnR WITHOUT JP
actually
playing, just reiterated that point.
Don't get me wrong, JLL has every right to go out and play all these songs
that's on his cd, without the actual musicians who guest starred on them.
After all, I think it's probably more about him still playing the piano, than
it
is about his voice.
I dunno, maybe I'm wrong and after all, it is my opinion, which means
nothing to any of you, him or anyone else for that matter. (maybe he gave all
he
had to give, at the Rhythm Festival, as I heard he was great there!)
I really do give JLL kudos for going out and giving it a go, and as Jimmy
Page would say..."He had a go at it, good for him", BUT.. he sorta reminds me
of Brian Wilson. Maybe it's a teleprompter he's staring at, or not. He's been
rather catatonic looking every time I have seen/heard his over the last few.
And the disussion about Zep reuniting as we all know won't happen, and as
someone (perhaps the person who brung the topic up) mentioned its not like the
guys need money....well here's just a reminder....

""And speaking of anniversaries, 2003 marks the 35th year since the band
formed, which has only made the rumor mill churn faster. Guitarist Jimmy Page
said he's constantly deflecting rumors of a reunion.
"I go into the studio and the engineer said to me, 'It's all over the papers
that you're touring next year,' and I said, 'What?' " Page recalled. "If
ever there was going to be a situation that I personally would ridicule, it
would be a band that was doing something from 30 years ago, putting it out,
and
then 30 years later going out to promote it with live shows. What sort of
nonsense is that? That was just really silly."
Still, Page doesn't dismiss the idea entirely. But the legendary guitarist
is looking for a catalyst other than money for the three surviving members to
tour for the first time since 1980, when they chose to break up rather than
continue without drummer John Bonham, who died in a drinking binge.""

Keep Dry/Warm! Haven't heard the word "Blizzard" used in Oklahoma EVER, but
I'm in the middle of one right now and LOVE IT. Uh, until the power goes out!
Thank goodness for acoustic instruments and battery operated Amps :-)
