I think where the difference lies is that the Dead, the Allamn Brothers,
etc mall lost members early on in their run. Zeppelin and the Who went 10+
years with their original members.The Allman's had only been around a few
years when Dwayne died, and the Dead was relatively new when Pigpen
passed. The Who on the other hand had been around for a decade and a half
when Moon died, and attempted one album after that and then we saw nothing
new from them for years other than a tour here and there. Then Entwhistle
turns around and does some coke with a bad heart condition and he was
gone. Next thing you know, they're releasing a new song.....I personally
found that rediculous. The Stones, in my mind, fall into the category with
the Allmans and the Dead, there have been so many members in and out of
those bands over the years it is different to me than a core group of 4
guys who were always the same oens writing, recording, and performing the
music.
I mean, INXS coming back with a reality show to find a new singer to
replace teh one that died almost a decade ago......that, to me, is lower
than what the Who has done.
Not to say the Who can't put on great performances...hell I loved the
Page/Plant shows....I would have preferred to see JPJ there but I'm not
sure if I would have spent the money to go to any of them had it been
billed as "Led Zeppelin"
I probvably would have but it still wouldn't mean I liked the idea.

Maybe they are, but I don't hear a lot of people talking about them. They
have their diehard fans. I personally wasn't even aware they were still
doing things.
I mean, should Pantera reunite without Dimebag Darryl?
It's also interesting to think about how the deceased member would ahve
felt. If there was an agreement to continue on prior to their death, I
guess there's really no arguement there. If bands were smart, they'd make
that agreement when signing their first big contract...,.because the rock
and roll lifestyle is ahead of them then and they need to realize how rare
it is for a long time band to continue without someone croaking.
It's amazing that all of the members of Cream are still alive today. Half
of the Beatles are gone (though one was not naturally) ...its hard to
think of bands from the 60's in which all of their core members are still
alive. Jefferson Airplane lost Spencer Dryden a year or so ago, and while
not an original member, he was part of them during their biggest years.
The man he replaced, Skip Spence, died several years before. And Papa John
Creach died in teh early 90's Sonny is dead, no more Sonny and Cher! BUT
the Monkees are still kicking..... they are in a minority. It is 40 years
after the mid-60's now, mix in that party lifestyle along with the normal
course of life and....well, we are lucky to have so many amazing musicians
still with us really.
