Sorry for the NZC, but I have to share!
I just got finished listening to the new Beatles disc, "Love", in 5.1
DVD-Audio. WOW, this thing is amazing! It is so crisp and clean
sounding - it literally sounds like it could have been recorded last
week. George Martin and his son re-mixed from the original multitrack
tapes and the results are astounding. But they did more than just
expand the soundscape into 6 speakers - they took great liberties to
combine songs and copy and paste segments of songs into other songs. I
was very uneasy about the latter, when I heard they did that. However,
the results are almost like listening to a new Beatles album! George
Martin did a wonderful and tasteful job. But the overall sound is what
really grabs me and gave me goose bumps! Very few people have ever
heard the Beatles with this sound quality before! The version I
listened to was DVD-Audio and requires a special player. However, the
disk also has Dolby Digital 5.1, DTS 5.1, and PCM Stereo. Almost any
DVD player can play those 3 formats, given the proper audio setup.
(also available is a single, regular CD) .
